Introduction
People getting more and more mobile and air connectivity getting better and cheaper in many cases, we are all jumping into aircrafts more than ever before.

Considering the following facts:

  • Today the contribution of aviation to the CO2 emission is in the order of 2 to 3%,
  • The successor to the Kyoto Protocol will be negotiated throughout 2009 for an implementation in 2012.

Environment issues are therefore becoming a major concern all over the world. In response to this concern, the aviation industry as a whole has taken steps and commitments to significantly reduce its footprint on the environment.

The ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization), the airlines and the aerospace industry grouped within ATAG (Air Transport Action Group) have launched ambitious plans to optimize aircraft use in order to reduce environment impact.

Aeronautical designers and manufacturers have pushed forward large projects in order to develop new aircraft and new engines with major improvements on environment impact.

A large information effort from all actors of such a key economic sector as aviation becomes highly relevant.

Considering that the growth of the air traffic is mostly taking place in the Asia-Pacific region, UniKL-MIAT in a joint effort with Institute Aeronautic et Spatial (IAS), France will be organizing an International Seminar where European and Asian experts will share their views about the efforts on operations and research to aim towards a greener aviation.
