6th International Conference on “Good Urban Governance for Making Cities Work”

The 6th International Conference on "Good Urban Governance for Making Cities Work" is being organized in Mumbai, co-terminus with the 6th International Exhibition on Municipal Services, Urban Development and Public Works from 29 to 31 January, 2009. The event is being organized in collaboration with Government of India Ministries of Urban Development, Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, Information Technology, All India Council of Mayors, National Institute of Urban Affairs, Association of Municipalities and Development Authorities, All India Institute of Local self Government, Government of Maharashtra, Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, leading local, provincial, national and international agencies and organisations dealing with Urban Development, Management and Governance. The objectives of the conference are as follows: * To evolve City Development and Management strategies considering problems faced and further prospects to make cities work in the context of the new initiatives under JNNURM and other programs, * To introduce policy-related reform agenda for improved urban governance, * To share technological options for various utility services, which are sustainable and environment-friendly for integrated water management, integrated waste management and holistic transportation options, * To evolve strategies for improving the financial management of Local Bodies, including better accounting systems, expanding resource base of local bodies and accessing capital market for resource mobilization, * To explore various partnership models for planning, developing and maintaining of housing and city utilities / services, * To establish efficient E-Governance systems to provide access to information and services to citizens in a user friendly manner, * To take stock of all "best practices" in the area of Urban Development, management and Governance for adoption / adaption by cities.
